2 months old and laughing!

The most amazing thing to happen in the past week is Esme learning to laugh! It is the cutest thing in the world. I only caught the end of her first laugh-a-thon. Her first laugh was recorded on Feb 20, 2010 when she was exactly two months old (8 weeks and 6 days).

I planned on writing this blog about how much she is smiling these days so here is a good video of her smiling and kicking on her play mat. She makes the cutest baby noises and I am certain she will be an early talker!!

We celebrated our first Valentine's Day and Stephen sent Esme and I some very beautiful roses. I love how you can see the top of Cow Cat's tail in this picture!

Great Grandma and Grandpa Bajema sent Esme her first Valentine's Day bib and Great Grandma and Grandpa Kennedy sent her a V-day outfit. Esme, the little stinker, managed to mess her lovely Valentine's day outfit in to time flat!

Here is her original outfit

And here is her mess! I took this picture so that I can torture her with it when she is older!!! It is the worst diaper blowout she has ever had...and probably ever will!!

This week we received a lovely package from my Aunt Peggy and Uncle Donnie containing new baby clothes for Ez. She is one spoiled and loved little girl. Will post pictures of the new outfits as soon as she wears them...the are ADORABLE!!

Today we went on a walk and Esme wore her sunglasses for the very first time! We also converted her pram into a push chair for the first time. It was a beautiful day but it was very windy! Esme was a champ and loved every minute of the walk, despite the cold.

Weeks 6 & 7

The past two weeks have been absolutely amazing. I really can't believe that my little angel is going to be 8 weeks old tomorrow! She is growing too quickly- I wish I could stop time in it's tracks.

Grandma Julie arrived on January 30th and has been looking after Ez while I am at school. I attend school three days a week but am only gone from 7am to 1pm Monday and Wednesday and 1130am to 4pm on Friday. I really dislike the school I am attending and am only attending it because it is one of the only forensic science schools in NYC and is the cheapest. I had some issues with financial aid last semester while attending Pace University and decided to transfer to John Jay. People always say wonderful things about the FS program at John Jay but I am not convinced. I guess we will see!

Esme has made amazing progress in the last two weeks. I know every parent must think their baby is well advanced, but I truly believe Ez is! She smiles in response to things and baby talks a lot! Here is a video of her smiling when daddy tickles her.

Esme experienced her very first Superbowl last sunday. The game was between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints. Our apartment complex put on a Superbowl party complete with food, drink and prizes so we dressed Ez up in her little Colts sleeper and joined the fun. We don't normally support either team (GO SEAHAWKS!) but decided to choose a team on a whim and, unfortunately, we chose the Colts. The Colts lost but we had tons of fun and I met several other moms in the building. Stephen was a little grumpy that we didn't win any of the drawings (we all know he is not the most gracious of losers!). Lucky for him his name was drawn at the last minute and he won a beer mug and Superbowl t-shirt!

One of the more exciting things that happened in the past few weeks was Ez finding her thumb (she used to suck on her whole hand) and her tongue! She is constantly sticking her tongue out and moving it in different directions...she even manages to click it every once in a while! I was amazed when she found her thumb but try to keep a binky in her mouth so that she doesn't become a thumb sucker! You can take a binky (dummy) away from a baby but it is pretty hard to take away a thumb!

Stephen and I decided to splurge and buy Esme a Kushies play mat. The mat is wonderful because it uses a lot of black, white and red and different textures. Babies only see a few colors when they are young and the Kushies company is the only company I have found that used that info to make a fun, educational play mat. She is extremely stimulated by the mat and spends a lot of time laying under the mobile and kicking her feet. She talks a lot when she is on the mat and you can practically see the little wheels in her head turning! The creatures are a bit scary but she seems to love them!

Each leg that makes the mobile has a different black and white pattern. You connect the colorful creatures to the legs wherever you want them. One side of the mat is very colorful and has three different textures. It also has several removable toys that you can rotate to different places on the mat.

The other side of the mat is great for tummy time. It is completely black and white and has a ton of different patterns, numbers and pictures on it.

Her hair is getting soooo long! It wont be long until I am able to put it into a pony tail!

The last thing I am going to write about today is something that happened yesterday! Grandma and I were giving Esme a bath and she decided that it was the perfect time to go to the bathroom! It was lucky we had just started because there were poopies everywhere!! It wouldn't have been so funny if we hadn't been talking about the fact that she had yet to poop in her bathtub at that very moment! This really is going to be a year full of firsts!!

We will leave you with a smile....

Milestones weeks 1-4

Since the day we brought her home Esme has been an amazing sleeper. She started off going to bed around 10 and waking up once at about 3:30 am. The most she ever woke up in one night was twice and the second time was at 530 am so I am not sure it that even qualifies as a night time wake up! She would wake up again around 8 am for a feed and diaper change and then go back to sleep until 930 or 10 am.

Her sleeping patterns just kept getting better. For a while she was going to bed at 11 pm and waking up at 530 for a feed and change and then would sleep in until 8 am or so. AMAZING!

Two days before her 4 week old birthday, Miss Esme started sleeping through the night! She sleeps from 11 pm until 730 am and falls right back to sleep after her feed until about 10 or 11! She is sleeping as I write this and it is 11:34! There was one night that she reverted to the 530 am wake up but she has been sleeping until 7 regularly! She must know how much Mommy and Daddy like their sleep!

She has the funniest sleeping position! She always sleeps with her arms above her head in "field goal" position! We think it is the most adorable thing in the world!

She makes the most hilarious faces. My favorite face is the face she makes when I burp her. She crinkles her forehead and lets out the cutest little sigh...It is hard to capture on camera (it looks like I am strangling her!) but we tried. I like to call it her Soprano face because she reminds me of Silvio when she makes it...

Sometimes we think she is smiling but it may just be gas! Whatever it is, it's cute!

Esme did not like taking baths at first. She would scream so loud and hard that it almost made me cry! I don't like causing her discomfort but I also like a clean baby! It took a few weeks but now she is very content in the water. She loves the tub Grandma Julie got her! This is how she reacted to baths at first:

and this is how she reacts now:

Ez was born with two birthmarks. They are stork bites (little red marks) and will go away over time. The one on the small of her back is very noticeable but it took a few baths before Grandma Julie and Mommy noticed the one on the base of her neck...her thick head of hair hid it!

Photobucket

Another big event was our first walk! I carried her in our ErgoBaby carrier and I LOVE it. It gives support to the back and has lots of storage pockets. It definitely beats getting the big pram out! There is a walk along the edge of the golf course that sits across from our apartment building. We didn't get very far as it was sunset and had to turn back but it was still very enjoyable!
